MY TOP 10 BEST TV SHOWS OF 2020 TO STREAM ON NETFLIX

You may or may not know, but I happen to be a huge Netflix fan, so this little fact gave me an idea for today's post.

I want to share with you my top 10 favorite TV shows for 2020 that are now streaming on Netflix and hopefully point you in the right direction if you're still deciding what show you want to start watching tonight.

Here’s a list of my top 10 picks so you can spend less time scrolling and more time streaming!

1. The Queen's Gambit

This show is starring the wonderful Anya Taylor-Joy as a orphan chess prodigy Beth Harmon.
It follows young Beth as she struggles with drug and alcohol addiction on her journey to becoming a Grandmaster in chess.

It is based on Walter Tevis’ 1983 novel of the same name, and it also stars Bill Camp, Thomas Brodie-Sangster, Marielle Heller and Harry Melling.

2. The Crown (Season 4)

This is a really compelling watch, it gives some major insight into the lives of one of the most famous families ever to have lived, with the latest episodes diving into the relationship between Prince Charles and Lady Diana.

The first two seasons starred Claire Foy and Matt Smith as Queen Elizabeth II and Prince Philip, and with Olivia Colman and Tobias Menzies taking over the same key roles for the third and now fourth season.

The breathtaking drama aims to portray the life and times of Queen Elizabeth II ruling over several seasons, with some deliberately planned resets and cast changes to “age” the cast where time moves forward.

3. Emily in Paris

This comedy-drama stars Lily Collins as Emily Cooper, a Chicago-based marketing executive who through some amazing turn of events lands herself a dream job in Paris – but soon realizes that it won’t be smooth sailing when her new colleagues take an immediate dislike of her and she’s caught up in a messy love triangle with her downstairs neighbor and his girlfriend.

This show may be a little bit filled with French clichés, but it’s a very fun and addictive watch nonetheless, full of romantic drama and gorgeous shots of the French capital.

In other words, if you want a free 10 episode virtual tour around Paris this is the way to go.

4. Lucifer

Based on the character created by Neil Gaiman for The Sandman comic-book series, Tom Ellis plays Lucifer, the handsome and seductive Lord of Hell who has made a home for himself in the sleazy glamour of Los Angeles and by chance of fate starts solving crimes with the gorgeous Detective Chloe Decker.

This show was initially canceled by Fox, but the major campaign starring the famous #SaveLucifer helped save this shows future and got taken on by Netflix.

You can now watch all 5 seasons of this show on Netflix.

5. Sex Education

This show follows the fortunes of Otis, Maeve, Eric as they navigate their school days, their parents and the challenges that come with both. Also starring Gillian Anderson as Otis’s sex therapist mother, this is a critically acclaimed show not just for its comedy, but for the bold way it challenges important issues head on.

This show has so far only 2 seasons, but is renewed for a 3rd one. I would highly recommend watching it if you enjoy a lot of that brilliant British humor I seem to be addicted to.

6. Peaky Blinders

This is of the biggest drama hits the BBC has produced in the last decade! Yeah, I know... Even bigger than BBC Sherlock himself.

My crush Cillian Murphy is starring in this crime epic drama and has an ensemble cast including Helen McCrory, Paul Anderson and Sophie Rundle.

This Brummie-based 1920s gang TV show really does have something for everyone. Sharp suits, sharper razor blades and performances that cut through all the usual period dross.

All five series are available to watch now on Netflix.

7. Chilling Adventures of Sabrina

Sabrina the Teenage Witch cartoon was a huge hit when I was a kid and I remember spending hours watching marathons on some German TV channel where is was airing constantly.
Several decades later, Netflix has rebooted the show with a darker and more mysterious edge, this time starring the lovely Kiernan Shipka.

Originally conceived as a companion series to Riverdale, the show eventually got a life of its own when it moved to Netflix and began telling the story of a half-witch, half-mortal and her sometimes challenging existence.

Stay tuned for season 4 that will be available on Netflix December 31.

8. Friends

Although it’s never hard to find this series somewhere on the TV, Netflix gives us the chance to either binge a TV show from start to finish or hand-pick our favorite episodes...the one with Ross’s sandwich, the one with the apartment swap, the one where Ross and Rachel were apparently on a break... basically whichever one you want.

Friends is one of those rare shows that I love to re-watch over and over again! The characters, the friendships, the impossible-to-afford central New York apartment...Everything about it represents the life we wish we were leading.

And even though we know each of the 236 episodes word for word, it’s weirdly comforting to watch them all yet again.

9. Modern Family

Just imagine... a life of a family. That’s it.

To make it interesting, the family is an extended one, split between Jay’s household, ruled by his curvaceous Colombian second wife, his daughter Claire's family and his son Mitchell’s relationship. The only angle is that Mitchell is gay and soon to be married to his partner Cameron.

So, there you have it. On paper, really nothing special. But while watching it you'll come up to the conclusion that this specific ensemble works so perfectly, so adorably, together on the silver screen.

And last, but not least..

10. Dead to Me

Here’s all you really need to know, this show is starring the awesome Christina Applegate and Linda Cardellini.

But, still here is a short overview of things: Jen (Christina) loses her husband in a hit-and-run accident and is consumed by her loss. Against her better judgement she attends a group grief counselling session and begrudgingly starts talking to Judy (Linda). They bond over mutual loss and quickly become firm friends, turning to each other in their darkest hours, much to Jen’s great surprise.

However, one of the women is guarding a terrible secret that threatens to upend their friendship and derail both of their lives entirely.

It is a touching, funny and addictive show with a gripping, soapy undercurrent which will constantly make you say to yourself “I’ll just watch one more episode before bed.”

The first 2 seasons are available to stream now on Netflix.
