After struggling with severe hormonal acne breakouts last year, I became much more selective about the foundations I use daily. Since then, I’ve leaned toward formulas that are gentle, breathable, and look natural on the skin. For the longest time, one of my go-to products was the Bourjois Healthy Mix Foundation, which I repurchased every two months because I wore it almost every day for work and weekends.

Still, I wanted to explore new lightweight, high-street options that could deliver that same natural finish without clogging pores. That’s when I discovered the much-talked-about L’Oréal Nude Magique Cushion Foundation—a product inspired by the Asian beauty world, where cushion compacts are hugely popular. It comes in a chic, travel-friendly compact that instantly caught my eye.

Product Details

The L’Oréal Nude Magique Cushion Foundation retails for around €14.99 (prices vary by region). It comes in a sleek purple-rose compact with a mirror and a washable sponge applicator. The brand describes it as a dewy, luminous, buildable foundation with light-to-medium coverage. It’s suitable for all skin types and currently available in 7 shades—though I do think the shade range is limited.

Why Cushion Foundations?

Cushion foundations are essentially liquid formulas stored inside a sponge. You press into the cushion, tap the product onto your skin, and blend. This one feels incredibly lightweight—almost watery—and even makes that satisfying “squish” when pressed. It’s one of the most unique formulas I’ve tried and it’s genuinely fun to use.

Application & Formula

The texture is liquidy, smooth, and blends with ease. It actually reminded me of Healthy Mix during application. I personally don’t use the included puff; I prefer applying foundation with my Real Techniques Miracle Complexion Sponge for an even finish. It also works well with brushes like a flat-top kabuki or a stippling brush.

On the skin, it feels weightless. It leaves a soft airbrushed finish that minimizes pores, blurs imperfections, and looks like a second skin. The coverage is easily buildable and never turns heavy or cakey.

Longevity & Wear

I found the wear time excellent. It lasts all day without breaking apart or getting overly oily. I’ve worn it both with and without setting powder, and it performs beautifully either way. The compact is also super travel-friendly, which makes it perfect for touch-ups on the go.

Pros & Cons

  • Pros: Lightweight formula, natural luminous finish, buildable coverage, portable compact with mirror, comfortable for normal/combination skin.
  • Cons: Only 7 shades and many feel similar—finding a perfect match can be tricky.

Final Verdict

The L’Oréal Nude Magique Cushion Foundation is unlike anything else in my collection. It’s versatile, feels like nothing on the skin, and gives a gorgeous radiant glow that’s perfect for summer. Despite the limited shade range, I was impressed by its performance and lightweight feel.

If you’re looking for a new lightweight drugstore foundation, especially for the warmer months, I recommend trying it. When you can catch it on sale, it’s a fantastic value.

Sincerely yours,

Lori
